  Gemfields Auction Achieves $15M

     Gemfields plc. sold 10.1 million carats of lower-quallity emeralds and beyrl from its Kagem mine in Zambia for $14.5 million, or an average of $3.72 per carat. The auction set a new record average value per carat for lower quality emerald auction, the company reported. The auction took place in in Lusaka and was 73 percent sold by lot and 88 percent sold by value with 21 companies inattendance......................

  Shine Joins Lonmin Board

    Varda Shine, the former CEO of the De Beers Trading Company, was appointed as an independent non-executive director of Lonmin Plc, a platinum metals group miner. The 51-year-old Shine left De Beers in February 2014. Shine took her position on Lonmin's board before the end of February 2015.     Sotheby's has appointed David Bennett to the newly created position of worldwide chairman of jewellery . In his new global role. Bennett, who is based in Geneva, Switzerland, will help design and implement a strategy of continuted expansion and business development for the jewellery branch of the auction house.
